In a significant move against organized illegal investments and part-time job frauds, the government has blocked over 100 websites on the recommendation of the Union Home Ministry.
Operated by overseas actors, these websites were identified by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre‘s National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU) last week.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology(MeitY), utilising its authority under the Information Technology Act, 2000, has executed the blocking of these websites following the NCTAU’s findings. The illicit activities involved task-based part-time job frauds and organized illegal investments, with the perpetrators exploiting digital advertising, chat messengers, and utilizing mule and rented accounts.
The statement released by the authorities highlights that the proceeds from these economic crimes were being laundered out of India through various means, including card networks, cryptocurrencies, overseas ATM withdrawals, and international FinTech companies.

The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), established by the Home Ministry, spearheads efforts to combat cybercrimes in the country through a coordinated and comprehensive approach. The latest action against these websites underscores the government’s commitment to curbing cybercrimes and protecting citizens from fraudulent online activities.
