MUMBAI: At least 15 people were killed after a girder launching machine collapsed in Shahapur tehsil in Maharashtra’s Thane district, on Tuesday.
The incident took place at Khutadi Sarlambe village in Shahapur during the construction of the third phase of Samruddhi Expressway.
The girder machine is a special-purpose mobile gantry crane used in bridge construction.
“Till now 15 dead bodies have been retrieved and three have been injured,” reported ANI quoting NDRF.
The injured have been shifted to nearby hospital.
Officials said that another six people are feared to be trapped inside the collapsed structure.
Police and fire brigade personnel along with local agencies are engaged in rescue operation, the official said.
