HYDERABAD: Two construction workers died and 7 other workers suffered injuries when the roof of a convention centre under construction collapsed on them at Moinabad on Monday evening. The injured workers were taken to nearby private hospitals and police said they are out of danger.
The accident took place at Surangal village in Moinabad mandal in Telangana.Police said owners of the property commissioned a function hall-cum-convention centre close to a private indoor stadium.
“Workers were trying to lay a high roof without pillars, with an aluminium support frame. While work was still on, the roof along with a side wall caved in,” A Venkat Ranga, inspector at Moinabad, said. “Two of them involved in welding and construction work fell from the roof and died on the spot with severe head injuries. Seven other workers suffered injuries as debris fell on them. ,” inspector Ranga said.
All the victims are migrant workers from different states. The deceased were identified as Bablu, 35, from West Bengal and Sunil, 36, from Bihar. So far, police identified 1 of the owners of the convention centre as Srinivas. Bodies of the 2 victims were removed from the rubble with the help of Disaster Response Force (DRF) and sent to Chevella government hospital for postmortem.
