MUMBAI: Mumbai Police on Wednesday arrested two people for allegedly kidnapping a 21-year-old woman from outside the Bandra family court on October 23.
A case of kidnap was registered with the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police on October 23 and police arrested the duo — Irfan Ali (36) and Mohammed Waralia (25).
During the probe, police learned that the entire kidnapping was planned by the woman’s parents in coordination with a female lawyer who helped her get their marriage registered in the Bandra court on October 2.
The woman who hails from Surat got married to a man residing in Mumbai on October 2.
However, there was a difference in his caste certificate which made them revisit the court on October 23 to get their marriage certificate when the woman was kidnapped.
The case was registered by a female lawyer who claimed to have witnessed the incident when two men came out of a white car and forcefully got the woman in the car and sped away at around 4 pm.
Based on the information, the police team nabbed the duo and learned from them that the lawyer was the wife of one of the accused (Irfan Ali) who planned the kidnapping to get the woman back to her parents.
A BKC police officer said they tracked the accused through the vehicle details that were captured in the CCTV from the spot from where the woman was kidnapped.
During the probe, the duo was caught and revealed the entire kidnap drama.
“A notice has been issued to the lawyer to be present in the police station and cooperate in the probe. The reason for kidnapping the woman was planned by the woman’s parents and the lawyer as she and the boy hail from two different communities and they were against her marrying the boy,” said the officer.
