NEW DELHI: The Bihar government on Monday released the much-awaited report of the caste-based survey.
According to the report, the backward class in Bihar constitutes 27.13 per cent of the population, while the extremely backward class accounts for 36.01 per cent.
“Backward class in Bihar is 27.13 per cent. The extremely backward class is 36.01 per cent and general category is 15.52 per cent. The total population of Bihar is more than 13 crore,” Vivek Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary, Bihar, said.

The survey also stated that Yadavs, the OBC group to which deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav belongs, were the largest in terms of population, accounting for 14.27 per cent of the total.
The survey was ordered last year after the Modi government made it clear that it would not be able to undertake a headcount of castes other than Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) as part of the census.
