X will charge new users to post, like tweets and more

X (formerly Twitter) is set to begin charging new users for basic features, such as posting messages, replying to tweets, and liking tweets. The new ‘rules’ are already in place but will currently apply to new users in New Zealand and the Philippines.
Do keep in mind that existing users in these countries will not be affected by the new policy, and will still be able to use X for free.
How much will users have to pay?
New users in these two countries will need to pay a one-time fee of $1 to create an account. X has not yet announced whether the new policy will be expanded to other countries in the future. The new policy is part of the “Not-a-bot” subscription service. The Not-a-Bot Program is a beta program that X is testing for platform integrity improvements, said the company.
The move to charge new users for basic features is a significant change for X, which has always been free to use. “New users who opt out of subscribing will only be able to take “read only” actions, such as: Read posts, Watch videos, and Follow accounts,” explained the company.
X has also said that the new policy will help to reduce spam and bots on the platform. “This new test was developed to bolster our already significant efforts to reduce spam, manipulation of our platform and bot activity,” the social media platform noted in a blog post.
It’s no secret that X has been struggling with spam and bots for years, and the new policy is another attempt to address this issue.
However, it remains to be seen whether the new policy will be successful in reducing spam and bots on X.
