Shaheen Afridi joins Shahid Afridi in an elite club for Pakistan at World Cup | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Australian openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh made a mockery of Pakistan bowling with their scintillating centuries but pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi managed to put some brakes by claiming a five-wicket haul on Friday.
With 5 for 54 in 10 overs, the left-arm pacer Shaheen became only the second Pakistan bowler to take two five-wicket hauls in the history of the World Cup. His effort also saw him become the first Pakistani pacer with two fifers in the World Cup.

Interestingly, Afridi’s father-in-law and former skipper Shahid Afridi was the only Pakistan bowler to have claimed two five-wicket hauls in the World Cup before him.
Shaheen’s first fifer came against Bangladesh in the 2019 World Cup when he took 6/35 – best figures by a Pakistani bowler in tournament’s history. While Shahid had taken his two five-fors in the 2011 World Cup against Kenya (5/16) and Canada (5/23).
Australia posted a mammoth 367/9 after Warner cracked a punishing 124-ball 163 on a flat Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch. Marsh, celebrating his 32nd birthday, clobbered a 108-ball 121 as the pair raced to an Australian World Cup opening stand record of 259 by the 34th over.
Shaheen helped Pakistan come back in the last ten overs with six wickets falling for 70 runs.
