“In my 30-minute speech, I can spend 10 minutes to criticize the Prime Minister another ten minutes on announcements and scams of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and the last ten minutes on Jyotiraditya Scindia whose ideology changed all on a sudden,” she said addressing the meeting at the Mela Grounds in Gwalior city.
“But I have not come here to divert your attention from the real issues. I have come here to speak on your issues and biggest of them all is inflation,” she said.
This is the first time that a Gandhi family member addressed a public meeting since the exit of Scindia from the Congress in March 2020. Before reaching the venue, Priyanka Gandhi stopped at the memorial of Rani Laxmibai and paid floral tributes to her. Former chief minister Kamal Nath, LOP Dr Govind Singh were also present along with party leaders from the Gwalior-Chambal region.

Addressing the Congress’ Jan Aakrosh rally, Priyanka Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his statement against INDIA alliance opposition parties. “It is very easy to stand here and criticize others. Whose responsibility is it to maintain political decency? It is the Prime Minister’s responsibility,” she said. “But two days ago, there was a meeting by opposition parties which was attended by big leaders. The next day, the Prime Minister gave a statement and claimed that all political leaders of these opposition parties are thieves,” Priyanka Gandhi alleged.
Since the opposition parties united for a coalition in Patna, PM Modi has claimed that the alliance is a guarantee for scams and corruption. Priyanka Gandhi said that the Prime Minister has been insulting opposition party leaders. “He (Modi) was talking about senior leaders representing their political parties who have struggled throughout their lives for the country and raised issues of the people. They are leaders who are respected in their states and the Prime Minister humiliated them all,” she said.
Speaking on the Manipur violence and the viral video of two women that shocked the nation, she said, “Manipur has been burning for two months. Houses are being set alight, women are being raped and tortures, there is no roof over the heads of children and our Prime Minister remained silent for 77 days.” She alleged that far from taking any action on the ethnic violence, he did not speak a single word.
“Yesterday after a horrifying video went viral, he was compelled not to keep quiet. He gave a statement but in that too he combined politics and named those states where Opposition parties are in power,” Priyanka Gandhi alleged.
She argued that the common man’s back is breaking under the pressure of inflation and increasing unemployment. “I feel that when a leader visits in every election, every state, every village and every locality, then he must speak on people’s issues. He must say why there is so much inflation and unemployment. He must explain why we have a government in the country that has sold all valuable properties,” she said.
“When the government sold those companies that provided employment, did they not know that people would lose jobs?” she asked. Priyanka Gandhi claimed that while the common man fights to make his ends meet, one industrialist who purchased PSUs from the government is earning Rs 1600 crores per day.
AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi came down heavily on the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government for the recent patwari recruitment irregularities. “Parents spent Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 on the tuition fees of their wards and the see how a scam happened in the patwari recruitments,” she said. Priyanka Gandhi also accused the state government of being arrogant, lazy and riddled in scams. “They did not even spare the idols of Mahakal temple,” she alleged.
Recalling that the Congress government formed in 2018 was toppled by the BJP, she said the BJP has ruled the state for 18 years. “What is the use of promising people and women of schemes and benefits before elections when you gave nothing in 18 years?” she asked. “The present government was formed on a faulty foundation. They purchased the government with money. So it’s intention is wrong with concentration on loot and scams,” she reasoned.
The Congress leader appealed to the people of Madhya Pradesh to elect a government that will be dedicated to resolving the problems of the people. “Give the government to a good person and he will work for you. If government goes to the wrong hands, then this kind of loot takes place like in your state at present,” she said. “With power in the hands of wrong people, oppression increases,” she maintained mentioning the recent atrocities on tribals and Dalits.
“Do you want a government that will give jobs to the youth? Do you want that sack of grains from the government or a job? This government has made you dependent with grains and schemes but will not give you employment,” she alleged. “Give the Congress a thumping majority. MP mein prachand badlaav ki lahar hai (there is tremendous wave of change in MP). Make a strong government that cannot be purchased or toppled so it can work for your future in the next five years,” she said.
Priyanka Gandhi also reiterated the five guarantees of the Congress party if it comes to power including Rs 1500 grant for women, gas cylinders at Rs 500, restoration of old pension scheme for government employees, completion of the farm loan waiver scheme started in 2018 after formation of the 15-month Kamal Nath government, free 100 units electricity and half the bill till 200 units. She also asked PCC chief Kamal Nath that if the party forms government then the pension for physically challenged people should be increased from the present Rs 600.
