According to the report, India is planning to send additional shipment which may include military equipment aimed at enhancing Armenia’s deterrence capabilities.
This comes amid Armenia’s conflict-like situation with Azerbaijan, which is backed by Pakistan and Turkey.
The decision comes after the successful delivery of an initial batch of weaponry last year, the ET report said.
Sources familiar with the situation told ET that a high-ranking Armenian official recently made a visit to New Delhi for discussions on this matter. However, the details of the matter remain undisclosed.
The previous shipment sent by India to Armenia included a range of military equipment such as Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, anti-tank missiles, rockets, and ammunition.
Notably, the supply was routed through Iran, a nation with historical ties to Armenia, prompting a protest from Azerbaijan.
India, Iran, and Armenia had formed a trilateral partnership aimed at exploring the transport corridor earlier this year.
In a meeting held in Armenian capital Yerevan in April, the three nations discussed economic initiatives, regional communication channels, and the potential for deepening cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections, agreeing to “continue consultations” within this format.
Additionally, the meeting examined the utilization of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) as a regional connectivity initiative.
Armenia has come to rely on India as a dependable source of weapons tailored to its specific requirements.
