NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday to assess the situation in the aftermath of the explosion at a convention center associated with a Christian group in Kochi, according to sources.
In response to the home minister’s directive, teams from the National Security Guard (NSG) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) are being sent to Kerala to aid the state government.
“The home minister spoke to the Kerala chief minister to take stock of the situation after the blast. The chief minister briefed the home minister about the incident,” a source said.
The explosion at the convention center in Kalamassery, Kochi, claimed one life and left more than 35 individuals injured. Eyewitnesses at the convention center informed reporters that the blast occurred in the midst of a prayer session.
