Trent Boult becomes first New Zealand bowler to claim 50 wickets in ODI World Cup | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Paceman Trent Boult achieved the distinction of becoming the first New Zealand bowler to claim 50 wickets in the ICC ODI World Cup during the match against Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Tim Southee ranks second on the list, securing 38 wickets in the tournament. Boult attained the feat when he dismissed Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis.
Boult joins an elite group of left-arm pacers in ODI World Cup history, being the third to take 50 or more wickets, following Mitchell Starc of Australia, who leads the chart with 59 wickets at an impressive average of 19.74.
Starc overtook the record previously held by former Pakistan bowler Wasim Akram, who claimed 55 wickets at an average of 23.83.

By surpassing Chaminda Vaas’ tally of 49 wickets, Boult cemented his place in this exclusive category among left-arm pacers.
Furthermore, Boult’s achievement places him among the six bowlers overall to claim 50 or more wickets in ODI World Cup history. Australian pace maestro Glenn McGrath leads the list with 71 wickets at an average of 18.19.
Following him is Sri Lanka’s spin maestro Muttiah Muralitharan with 68 wickets at an average of 19.63. Starc and Lasith Malinga possess 59 and 56 wickets, respectively. Wasim Akram stands at fifth place with 55 wickets, and Boult, with 52 wickets, secures the sixth spot.
