Google-owned Fitbit has stopped selling products in several countries across Europe, Asia and Latin America. The company, however, has said that it will continue to support its wearables with software updates and other customer services.
According to two separate Google support pages, Fitbit will not sell products in countries including, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hong Kong, Hungary, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Thailand.
“The following country sites are affected: Mexico and the broader Latin America countries,” said the other page. South Africa is also on the list and Google told South African publication TechCentral that it has decided to stop selling both the Fitbit and Nest products in “select countries”.
According to the company, the move is to “align our hardware portfolio to map closer to Pixel’s regional availability.”
“We will continue to support you and the devices you currently own with software releases, security updates, warranty fulfilment, and access to customer service,” the company said.
Auto-renewals of Fitbit Premium
According to the company, auto-renewals of Fitbit Premium memberships purchased from fitbit.com in the countries mentioned will stop effective October 24, 2023.
Those who have an active Fitbit Premium membership, you will continue to have access to Fitbit Premium features until the end of their current billing period plus an extra 30 days at no additional charge.
Google’s purchase of Fitbit
The move may be seen as a way for Google to promote its own wearables. Recently, Google launched the Pixel Watch 2 smartwatch that comes integrated with a lot of features that we have previously seen in Fitbit wearables. The company also brought Fitbit premium functionalities and offers.
Google Pixel Watch 2 can be connected to the newly-redesigned Fitbit app to provide a more comprehensive view of health and wellness. Google is also offering six months of Fitbit Premium with purchase of the wearable.
