JOYNAGAR: A Trinamool block president was fatally shot outside his Bamangachhi home on Monday, leading to the lynching of one of the suspected killers and subsequent arson in neighbouring Daluakhaki village of South 24 Parganas district in Bengal.
The assailants attacked Trinamool’s Bamangachhi block president Saifuddin Laskar, 43, when he left his home to attend morning prayers at a nearby mosque.Laskar, whose wife Sarifa Bibi serves as the gram panchayat pradhan, was rushed to the Padmerhat rural hospital, but was pronounceddead upon arrival.
Enraged TMC supporters caught two alleged assailants, who were allegedly known to Laskar, leading to the lynching of one, while the other was handed over to police. Baruipur SP Palash Chandra Dhali said the main murder suspect, Shaiful Sheikh, has been arrested.
Allegations flew between political parties, with TMC Canning East MLA Saokat Molla accusing BJP of involvement.
