Rural Life: Bachelor Karnataka farmers plan temple march in search for brides | India News

MYSURU: Scores of Karnataka farmers plan to go on a padayatra (march) to a shrine in Mandya next month seeking divine intervention to get brides, eight months after a similar effort by another group. The farmers say the “bride crisis” has been caused by reluctance among many women and their families to be yoked to rural life.
Santosh was among the hundreds -mostly aged 30 and above – who had trekked to the MM Hills temple in Chamarajanagar district in February.

“We are not asking for any dowry. We look after them (prospective brides) like queens. But still, no family is ready to give their daughters to us. We took out this padayatra to create awareness in society about the problem,” Santosh said.

In December, the Mandya bachelors plan to march to the Adichunchanagiri Mutt under the banner of the Akhila Karnataka Brahmacharigala Sangha.
“We met Adichunchanagiri seer Nirmalanandanatha Swami and the seer gave his consent for the yatra. The objective is to create awareness in society about the bride crisis,” said KM Shivaprasad, founder of the Sangha.
