Sacked interior minister Suella Braverman accuses UK PM Sunak of betrayal in resignation letter

NEW DELHI: Just days after she was sacked as UK interior minister, Suella Braverman on Tuesday launched a withering attack against prime minister Rishi Sunak saying that “your plan is not working”.
She also urged Sunak to change course urgently to avoid election defeat and slammed his record on immigration and anti-Semitism in a three-page letter.
Braverman, who is considered a favourite of the right-wingers in the ruling Conservative party was sacked as interior minister on Monday.
“Someone needs to be honest: your plan is not working, we have endured record election defeats, your resets have failed and we are running out of time. You need to change course urgently,” Braverman said in a letter to Sunak.
A week after Braverman accused police of left-wing bias, the UK PM Sunak dismissed her in a reshuffle of his top team on Monday.
Braverman in her letter has accused Sunak of “equivocation, disregard and a lack of interest” over several policies. “You have manifestly and repeatedly failed to deliver on every single one of these key policies,” she said in her letter.
“Either your distinctive style of government means you are incapable of doing so. Or, as I must surely conclude now, you never had any intention of keeping your promises,” she wrote.
In her letter, Braverman described Sunak’s rejection of withdrawing from the European Convention on Human Rights as a way to push through the scheme as a “betrayal”.
“You opted instead for wishful thinking as a comfort blanket to avoid having to make hard choices. This irresponsibility has wasted time and left the country in an impossible position,” Braverman wrote.
Braverman said Sunak had failed “to rise to the challenge posed by the increasingly vicious antisemitism and extremism displayed on our streets”.
“I have become hoarse urging you to consider legislation to ban the hate marches and help stem the rising tide of racism, intimidation and terrorist glorification threatening community cohesion,” she added, accusing the PM of putting off “tough decisions in order to minimise political risk to yourself”.
