Sarma: A fortnight after mocking Rahul Gandhi, Himanta Biswa Sarma lauds Assam minister for farming | India News

NEW DELHI: Just a fortnight ago, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had mocked former Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for trying his hands at farming. However, on Sunday, he heaped praises on his agriculture minister for doing the same. The CM also announced that very soon, all his ministers, senior officers and he will start spending a fixed number of days in villages across the state.

Assam agriculture minister Atul Bora on Sunday tweeted a video of him ploughing a field and sowing paddy in muddy water.
Bora, who is also the president of Asom Gana Parishad, said, “Ploughed paddy field with a tractor and spent some wonderful time with the farmers at my native village Barahi in Golaghat. I would like to urge the youth to devote themselves to agriculture to build a self-reliant #Assam.”

Lauding his minister, the Assam CM said, “It’s good to see our honourable agriculture minister practising farming!”
Sarma went on to announce his plan and said, “Soon all our ministers, senior officers, and myself will spend a fixed number of days in villages across Assam to evaluate the last-mile implementation of our schemes.”

Sarma’s response to his minister practising farming was totally in contrast to hw he reacted when Rahul tried his hands in agriculture earlier this month.
The Nehru-Gandhi scion had visited Madina village in Sonipat district of Haryana on July 8 and interacted with farmers. He was seen driving a tractor and sowing paddy in the fields. He also ate food with the farmers.
Sarma and other BJP leaders had mocked Rahul for the same act.
Sarma, in a tweet on July 9, said, “The sudden desire of the Prince, and his desperation, to get real is laughable! But in your zeal to get captured by your photo and video team, for God’s sake, do not demean the dignity of our Annadatas. The heckling of farmers to pose as a ‘farmer’ is deplorable Mr Gandhi. Get Real without the Reels.”

The BJP responded to Rahul’s farming act by saying: “Country’s first narcissistic farmer who planted paddy with 4-5 cameras. Camera-jeevi farmer ‘Rahul Gandhi’.”
BJP national general secretary CT Ravi also made fun of the Congress leader. “It is laughable to watch Rahul try to prove himself that he cares for the common man when in reality he is trying to fool the masses. Despite being MP of Amethi for almost 15 years, Rahul could not nurture it into a model constituency and was defeated by Smt @smritiirani forcing him to run away to Wayanad. With every such attempt to fool Bharatiyas, @RahulGandhi will end up making a bigger fool of himself.”
