Startups: EU-India Innocentre’s 8th cohort showcases cutting-edge technologies in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: The EU-India Innocentre, backed by EU funds and operating under the Horizon 2020 R&I (research and innovation) framework, recently brought its 8th cohort comprising seven European startups, accompanied by over 20 investors and innovation hubs to Bengaluru.
These startups, including Anyline, Nano-tech, Cheesecake Energy, Enline, PVRmed, and Soula AI, span key sectors such as healthtech, clean-tech, and deep technology.
“The inaugural ‘Blue Carpet Night’ networking event at the Bangalore International Centre (BIC) provided a platform for these startups to showcase their innovations to Indian stakeholders, including venture capitalists and potential partners,” EU-India Innocentre said in a statement.
The cohort engaged in immersive activities, including a roundtable at Nasscom Future Forge, a visit to Tata Elxsi, and a pitch session organised by KDEM (Karnataka Digital Economy Mission). The EU-India partnership roundtable focussed on smart cities and cross-border innovation, demonstrating the commitment to fostering global collaborations.
“In an announcement during the Blue Carpet Night, EU-India Innocentre revealed its expansion of market-entry services to facilitate Indian startups exploring the European market. This highlighted the increasing global presence of startups and underscores the success of the EU-funded initiative,” the statement read.
Seppo Nurmi, charge d’affaires, European Union Delegation to India, commended the programme’s role in fostering collaboration between the EU and Indian startup ecosystems, emphasising the potential for mutual value creation, while Cristina Russo, director for Global and International Cooperation in Research and Innovation in the European Commission, lauded the initiative’s alignment with the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) between the EU and India.
Varun Mallapragada, programme partner at the EU-India Innocenter, emphasised their commitment to innovation diplomacy, aiming to create opportunities and shape the future of tech-driven innovation.
Michel Mellis, a seasoned investor and Innovator from EGI Group, highlighted India’s ascent as a global innovation powerhouse, presenting a golden opportunity for startups eyeing international expansion.
“The Indian ecosystem of the programme includes organisations such as Startup India, Invest India, Tata Elxsi, JLL Idea Labs, KDEM, and enterprises like Jio, Titan Company Limited, TVS Motors, and Accenture. EU innovation ecosystem players, including Technopol, Krakow Technopark, Hitachi Ventures, and Cambridge Cleantech, are also part of this collaborative effort,” the statement read.
To date, EU-India Innocenter has facilitated eight strategic partnerships from previous cohorts, with ongoing pilot projects in health-tech, clean-tech, deep-tech, and logistics. “The programme remains steadfast in its mission to connect startups, create opportunities, and strengthen ties between India and Europe through innovation, serving as a bridge for exchanging ideas, expertise, and resources,” the statement added.
