Microsoft said that the app will be available for iPhones (iOS) and iPads(iPadOS), the web and Windows.It will enable users to connect to any remote Windows PC,Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop and Microsoft Dev Box. Windows app is available in preview.
“You can use Windows App on many different types of devices on different platforms and form factors, such as desktops and laptops, tablets, smartphones, and through a web browser. When using a web browser on a desktop or laptop, you can connect without having to download and install any software,” Microsoft said.
Windows app features
The Windows app will act as a customisable home screen that will incorporate all of Microsoft’s current Cloud PC services. There are many features for remote experience, which include:
- Multiple monitor support
- Custom display resolutions
- Dynamic display resolutions and scaling
- Device redirection, such as webcams, audio, storage devices, and printers
- Microsoft Teams optimisations
According to a report, the screenshot provided by Microsoft shows it is running an Android tablet, suggesting that the Android app may be coming later.
Windows on Cloud
The development comes as Microsoft is planning to move Windows 11 to the cloud. The company is already moving Windows to the cloud for commercial users with Windows 365, and if the latest development is to be believed, the company is planning to do the same on the consumer side.
According to a report by The Verge, in an internal “state of the business” Microsoft presentation from June 2022, Microsoft discussed building on “Windows 365 to enable a full Windows operating system streamed from the cloud to any device.”
The presentation, which was revealed as part of the ongoing FTC vs Microsoft hearing, includes Microsoft’s overall gaming strategy.
