NEW DELHI: BJP has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Rahul Gandhi for his jibe that PM Narendra Modi’s presence at the venue led to India’s defeat in the Cricket World Cup final, as well as against Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge for “falsely” claiming that Modi got his caste ‘Ghanchi Teli’ included in the list of OBCs during his chief ministership of Gujarat.
A delegation led by BJP general secretary Radha Mohan Agarwal told the EC that appropriate legal action should be taken against Rahul and Kharge should be barred from campaigning.
Rahul made his controversial remark while campaigning in Rajasthan, claiming that the Indian team was playing well but the PM made them lose by turning up for the final against Australia. He called the PM “panauti”, which loosely translates into “bad omen”.
“Werequest the EC to intervene urgently by taking appropriate legal action against Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi,” the BJP delegation communicated to the EC.
