Instagram had rolled out a feature in the US which allowed users to download Reels from public accounts. That was in July and now the feature is available worldwide for Instagram users. As expected, who can download your reels depends on your account’s privacy settings.
In the case of public accounts, anyone on Instagram can download your reels and share your reels, unless you change your reels download settings.New reels you share after downloading became available will be able to be downloaded. Do keep in mind that downloaded reels will include an Instagram watermark, the username and audio attribution. Downloaded reels aren’t allowed to be used for commercial purposes. However, Instagram is making it clear that it can’t control what people do with reels after they download them.
“For Instagram users under 18 with public accounts, the default setting for downloading reels will be off, but can be turned on at any time,” said Instagram in a blog post.
If you have a private account then no one on Instagram can download your reels, unless you change your account’s privacy setting to public.
