‘Any selector will be tempted…’: Ashish Nehra on Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli’s T20I future | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: The speculation surrounding the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in T20Is has been the talk of the town, specially within the cricket fraternity, following India’s defeat in the World Cup final against Australia.
Skipper Rohit and Kohli have been away from the shortest format since India’s T20 World Cupsemi-final exit in November 2022.Hardik Pandya has mostly led the Indian team in T20Is since then. But former India pacer Ashish Nehra feels both the batters should continue playing T20Is given their current form and any selector will be tempted to get them on board.
“Virat Kohli is scoring 800 runs, 1000 runs in a calendar year. The way Rohit Sharma is batting, any selector will be tempted. Although they might have a discussion about whether or not Kohli and Rohit want to play the format ‘okay I might not play, I might rest’,” Nehra said while speaking to JioCinema.
Nehra also believes as long as Rohit and Virat are scoring runs and enjoying their game, they are good enough to play any format.

“Unless they announce their retirement from the format in some time, I hope that’s not the case. Both Rohit and Virat are good enough to play any format as long as they are scoring runs and having fun,” said Nehra.
The 36-year-old India skipper has played 148 T20Is scoring 3853 runs at a strike-rate of nearly 140 with four hundreds and 29 half-centuries. Kohli, on the other hand, amassed 4008 runs in 115 matches with one hundred and 37 fifties.
After Rohit, India have four openers — Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad — and all of them are proven IPL performers.
If the younger crop does not perform, the selectors or the BCCI brass might just ask Rohit to reconsider his current stand.
