Srinagar: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba overground workers were arrested with arms and ammunition during a routine checkpoint operation in Pethkoot area of Beerwah in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday. Meanwhile, in Sarniyal forest in Ramban district of Jammu Division, security forces busted a terrorist hideout and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition including 113 7.62mm AK-47 rounds, two 9mm rounds (rusted condition), seven 7.62mmm sniper rounds, five PIKA rounds, one PIKA belt, three AK-47 magazines (rusted condition), three Chinese grenades, one Pakistani grenade, two Under Barrel Grenade Launchers, 300g explosives, one FM transistor, two fuses and two detonators.
The arrested Lashkar overground workers were identified as Mohammad Younis Dar, Syed Jahangir Shah, and Irfan Ahmad Wagay. Searches yielded a hand grenade, 13 AK rounds, and nine posters of the outfit. Police registered a case under relevant sections of the UAP and Arms Acts and initiated an investigation.
Later in the day, security forces launched a search operation in the forest area of Khari based on intelligence inputs regarding the presence of a terrorist hideout and recovered the huge cache of arms and ammunition. A case under the Arms Act and Explosives Substances Act was registered at Khari PS and an investigation was launched, police said in a statement.
