Police Warning: Police want parents to disable this feature on their kids iPhones, here’s why

Apple iOS 17 is home to a lot of new features and changes. Some changes are simple yet practical while some, according to a local police division in Ohio, despite being useful can become a problem for several parents, reports Phonearena.
The feature in question is “NameDrop ” and it allows users to exchange contact information, photos, etc by simply placing the top part of the two iPhones a few centimetres apart.The feature is turned on by default in iPhones running iOS 17.1 or newer.
Police want parents to turn off this feature to ensure safety and privacy of their kids
According to the report, the Middleton Police Division is asking parents to turn off the “NameDrop” feature to ensure their kids’ data including photos, phone numbers and addresses do not get passed along that easily.
How to disable NameDrop on your iPhone

According to the official video of NameDrop feature dropped by Apple, user input is required to quickly share contact information between two iPhones. The feature is not as simple as bringing two iPhones or iPhone and Apple Watch together and sharing contact information according to the video. However, basic contact details can be transferred by simply bringing two devices together.
Moreover, to share other content, users are required to navigate to a photo or video and then tap on AirDrop and bring the two devices together to share.
Disabling it on kids’ phone makes sense
Whether or not the contact details get transferred with or without manual input via NameDrop, disabling the feature is a good choice on a kids’ phone. This will ensure additional safety and data protection for your kids’ phones.
