Android: Microsoft Phone Link may soon get Android phone camera support

[ad_1]

With Windows 11, Microsoft announced its Phone Link and Link to Windows feature that allowed Android users (initially Samsung Galaxy phone users) to integrate their smartphones with the Windows PC. Recently, the company announced the expansion of the feature to other OEMs including Oppo, OnePlus and others.
In the latest news, Microsoft is reportedly working on a feature within the Phone Link app that will let users access their phone’s camera via the app on their Windows PC.
Now, there could be many usages for this. But the most important one could be as a webcam. That said, the idea of using smartphones as webcam for PCs isn’t new. There are several third-party tools and apps available that mimic this functionality. Apple also recently announced Continuity camera support for iOS and macOS. And, Google has also added similar functionality with Android 14 operating system.
Android Authority has spotted this feature and the Phone Link app has the codes that hints at being able to connect Android phone’s camera with Windows.
According to the report, a notification will display prompting you to tap it, granting permission for your PC to stream your camera video. Additionally, there are messages related to pausing and resuming the video, along with notifications addressing the phone’s temperature status for streaming.
It is worth noting that the code does not mention using the Android phone’s camera as a webcam on Windows. This means, the functionality could be there. The actual reason behind this feature is still unclear and we will get to know more once it is rolled out to the final build.
In terms of features, there are a couple of them mentioned in the code. This includes Auto-framing, filters and shooting modes.
