As the Mizoram assembly election counting commenced, attention turned to Lawngtlai West. Initial indications pointed to a closely contested race between C. Ngunlianchunga of INC and V. Zirsanga of MNF. After two hours of counting, C. Ngunlianchunga took the lead with a 481-vote margin.
The back-and-forth battle persisted, and following an anxious wait, C. Ngunlianchunga clinched victory in Lawngtlai West with 11,296 votes, surpassing MNF’s V. Zirsanga who garnered 10,864 votes. The final outcomes affirmed INC’s success in the Lawngtlai West assembly election, signifying a noteworthy political development in Mizoram.
In the last Mizoram Assembly election, INC won the Lawngtlai West constituency with C. Ngunlianchunga securing 10,678 votes in a high voter turnout of 83.56% in 2018. C. Ramhluna of MNF came in second with 9,883 votes. The current election on November 7, recorded a lower voter turnout of 20.86%. In the previous election cycle in Mizoram, MNF secured 27 out of 40 seats, while CONG won 4 seats.
