NEW DELHI: After accepting the resignation of Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar, President Droupadi Murmu has given the Agriculture ministry, which was held by Tomar, to Arjun Munda.
Munda, former CM of Jharkhand, is currently the tribal affairs minister in PM Modi’s cabinet.
Tomar resigned as MP after winning Madhya Pradesh’s Dimani assembly seat in the state polls by a margin of over 24000 votes.He defeated Balveer Singh Dandotiya of BSP.
Apart from Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel and Renuka Singh Saruta also tendered their resignation as MPs to the President.
While Saruta served as minister of state for tribal affairs, Prahlad Singh Patel was minister of state for food processing industries and Jal Shakti of India.
Union ministers Tomar, Patel and Saruta resigned as the BJP had decided that all of its 12 MPs recently elected to state assemblies will quit Parliament, amid strong indications that they may join the new governments in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, minister of state (MoS) Bharti Pravin Pawar has been given an additional charge as MoS in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar was assigned additional charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Minister of state Shobha Karandlaje was assigned additional charge of MoS in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.
Other MPs who quit are Rakesh Singh, Udya Pratap Singh and Riti Pathak from Madhya Pradesh; Kirodi Lal Meena, Diya Kumari and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore from Rajasthan and Gomati Sai and Arun Sao from Chhattisgarh.
All except Meena are Lok Sabha members. Meena is a Rajya Sabha member.
