In September 2023, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced a three-month extension of the complimentary Aadhaar update service, spanning from September 14 to December 14, 2023. It is essential to note that this free service is exclusively available on the myAadhaar portal. If you opt to visit an Aadhaarcenter for the update, a service fee of Rs 50 will be applicable.Now, you have just a week left to update your Aadhaar details for free.
“Based on the positive response from the residents, it is decided to extend the facility for three more months i.e. from 15.09.2023 to 14.12.2023. Accordingly, the facility for document update shall continue free of cost through myAadhaar portal up to 14.12.2023,” UIDAI had said in a memorandum.

How to update Aadhaar details

Things to keep in mind
- Ensure your mobile number is registered with your Aadhaar. You will receive an OTP (One Time Password) during the process.
- Have scanned copies of your supporting documents ready. These may include proof of identity, address, date of birth, gender, or relationship (for minor’s update).
Once you’ve done the above, follow these steps:
- Visit the official UIDAI website: https://uidai.gov.in/en/
- Create an account or log in if you have one.
- Click on “Update Demographic Data and Check Status”
- Click on Document Update
- You will be prompted to enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
- UIDAI will send an OTP to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. Enter the OTP when prompted.
- Choose the details you want to update, such as name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number, or email address.
- Depending on the information you are updating, you may be required to upload supporting documents. For example, if you are updating your address, you might need to upload a scanned copy of a utility bill or another valid document.
- After entering the new information and uploading supporting documents, submit the update request.
- After submission, you will receive an Update Request Number (URN). This number can be used to track the status of your update.
- After the UIDAI has completed their internal quality check of your documents and updated information, you will receive an SMS notification informing you of the status of your request.
