Aggressively probing attack on Indian consulate in San Francisco: FBI tells NIA | India News

In a clear pointer to continued cooperation between NIA and FBI, FBI director Christopher A Wray informed NIA DG Dinkar Gupta on Tuesday that the agency was aggressively investigating the attack on the Indian consulate in San Francisco.
The consulate was attacked on March 19, 2023 by a group of protesters who damaged the premises and attempted to set the building on fire, causing injuries. NIA is probing the attacks and had in September released pictures of those involved, seeking their identification and whereabouts.

During his visit to the NIA HQ, Wray discussed a host of issues with Gupta, including activities of terrorist-organised criminal networks, ongoing probes in the US in the attack on the Indian consulate, among others.Sources told TOI that the issue of allegedassassination bid on SFJ activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun did not come up during the discussions, as it was already being dealt with on a diplomatic level.
However, Gupta noted with satisfaction the progress on the ongoing proceedings relating to the extradition request for Mumbai 26/11 attacks accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana.
