NAGPUR/MUMBAI: Following demands from Shiv Sena and BJP MLAs, the state home department, headed by deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, on Tuesday issued a letter to Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar directing that a revised probe be carried out into the death of celebrity PR manager Disha Salian.
Accordingly, senior inspector of Malwani police station Chimaji Adhav will carry out a probe into the case under guidance of DCP (zone 11) Ajay Bansal and additional commissioner (north region) Rajiv Jain.Disha (28) died on June 8, 2020.
Among the celebrities whose work she managed was actor Sushant Singh Rajput who died a few days later, on June 14, 2020.
The letter issued by the home department to Phansalkar said, “The death of Disha Salian is currently being debated and many questions are being raised. Advanced developments in the case have led to the possibility of the emergence of new material evidence, thus necessitating a review of the case. In view of this fact, if any evidence is found in the case of her death, it is requested to inform the executive magistrate and proceed with further investigation.” Her father Satish told TOI on Tuesday, “I’m not aware of the decision (reinvestigation into the case). I will have to study it further.”
On June 8, 2020, Disha had allegedly jumped off her fiance’s apartment on the 12th floor of a highrise in Malad West following which an accidental death report was lodged by the Malwani police.
Mumbai Police conducted a lengthy investigation and filed a final summary report in 2021, not finding any foul play. The report had included Disha’s autopsy findings, statements of family, and inquest panchnama.
During the winter session of the state legislature in Nagpur last year, the state government announced that it would form a special investigation team (SIT) to probe Disha’s death. But no SIT was formed till Tuesday’s developments.
