The Chinese readout of the meeting between NSA Ajit Doval and China’s top diplomat Wang Yi quoted the former as saying that the destinies of the two sides are closely linked, and it’s necessary to rebuild strategic mutual trust and seek common development.
“The Indian side is willing to work with the Chinese side to find a fundamental way to resolve the border situation in the spirit of mutual understanding and mutual respect, look at the overall situation and the long-term, promote the improvement and development of bilateral relations as soon as possible, and make positive contributions to maintaining world peace and prosperity,” it said, quoting the NSA.
The Brics NSA meeting took place on the run up to the summit that will take place next month. Both President Xi Jinping and PM Narendra Modi are expected to participate in the summit.
The two leaders haven’t had a bilateral meeting since the military standoff began but they did exchange pleasantries on the margins of the G20 summit in Bali last year.
China also claimed in its readout of the Doval-Wang meeting that Modi and Xi reached an important consensus on stabilising China-India relations in Bali.
“The two sides should adhere to the strategic judgment of the leaders of the two countries that they do not pose a threat to each other, and they are each other’s development opportunities,” it said. TNN
