Meta has been working on chatbots powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and there is an update on that front. A report has claimed that the Facebook parent is preparing multiple chatbots that exhibit different personalities.

News agency Reuters (via The Financial Times) reported that Meta may launch these chatbots as early as September.
Citing people with knowledge of the plans, FT said that the company had been working on prototypes of chatbots that can have humanlike discussions with its users.

These chatbots are aimed at boosting its engagement with its social media platforms.

One of the chatbots, the report claims, can speak like Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the US. Another one can provide advice on travel options in the style of a surfer. Reportedly, these chatbots will provide a new search function as well as offer recommendations.
Meta Llama 2 language models
Meta recently announced its Llama 2 language models that will help organisations create their own chatbots. There are two versions of Llama 2: Llama 2 and Llama 2-Chat. Llama 2-Chat is specifically designed for two-way conversations.
Google and ChatGPT maker OpenAI have also developed similar language models, namely PaLM 2 and GPT 4 that power their own chatbots.

Meanwhile, Amazon also shared its plans to bring AI to Alexa to make the virtual assistant more conversational. Google is also reportedly starting to introduce generative AI-powered features in Assistant to “supercharge” it with the newest large language models (LLM) and “make it even better.”
Last month, a report also claimed that Apple is also working on AI offerings similar to ChatGPT and Google Bard. It was reported that the iPhone maker has built its own framework, known as ‘Ajax’, to create large language models. The company is also said to be internally testing a chatbot called ‘Apple GPT‘.
