Sources said the deaths were attributed to “multiple injuries to vital organs”. TOI has learnt the injuries were primarily concentrated on the chests and heads of the deceased.
The investigation revealed that Tikaram Meena, an assistant sub-inspector with RPF and Singh’s immediate superior, endured the most severe impact with four gunshot wounds, the most among them. Another victim, Asghar Abbas Shaikh, had three gunshot wounds while Kadar Bhanpurwala and Syed Saifuddin had two wounds each.
The deceased had bled heavily and passed away on the spot. The forensic department had formed a team that carried out the post-mortems, which were also videotaped. Following the autopsies, the bodies were handed over to the Borivli railway police at 6.30am, the hospital authorities confirmed. Routine samples such as viscera were preserved for histopathology examination.
