YouTube: YouTube starts rolling out 1080p Premium video quality to web

YouTube started testing the 1080p Premium tier on its platform a couple of months ago. Later, the company started rolling it out on iOS, Android and Google TV users. Now, the video-sharing platform has confirmed that it has made the feature available on desktop web clients as well.

For those unaware, 1080p Premium is a new video quality option that the company is offering to Premium users. This improves the overall bit rate of the video and enhances the quality, sharpness and details.
YouTube has confirmed the rollout on web

The Verge has reported that YouTube has officially confirmed the rollout of 1080p Premium mode on the web officially. This means YouTube Premium subscribers can now watch 1080p videos in better quality and detail.
Regardless of the fact that the mode is limited to Premium users, it will still show up to non-Premium members as well. However, once they will choose this video quality, YouTube will notify them that this mode is only available for paid users and provide them with the option to buy Premium membership. YT Premium membership starts at Rs 129 per month with auto-renewal or Rs 139 per month without it. Apart from that, you can also get a yearly subscription at Rs 1,290. There’s a family plan available as well that costs Rs 189 for 5 members.
We also checked and the changes are now live. Going forward, whether you are a YouTube Premium user or now, if you play 1080p video, it will present you with the option of 1080p Premium. If you are a Premium user, then you’ll be able to choose the option. Otherwise, it will notify you to get a Premium subscription to select this video quality.
Reports suggest that Google has also added the new 1080p Premium option to select smart TVs including non-Google devices and consoles as well. But, it’s not mentioned anywhere officially.
