Suicide: CRPF jawan dies of gunshot wounds in Pulwama, suicide suspected | India News

SRINAGAR/BOKARO: A CRPF jawan died of bullet injuries in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district early Saturday, Srinagar Police said. “The apparent cause of death is suicide. Everything would be revealed after the investigation,” a police spokesperson said.

Around 1.55am, gunshots were heard near Sail Chersoo area, the spokesperson said, adding: “After assessing crucial evidence, a jawan of CRPF’s 112Bn, Constable/Sepoy Ajay Kumar, was found lying dead in a pool of blood.” Medico-legal formalities were completed and inquest proceeding under CrPC 174 were initiated, added the spokesperson.
Lance Naik Ajay Kumar Rai, a resident of Dhengadih in Jharkhand’s Giridih district, was on sentry duty when the suspected suicide took place. His battalion was entrusted with the security of Amarnath pilgrims.

Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren condoled the death. Giridih DC Naman Priyesh Lakra said, “The jawan’s body is expected to arrive here on Sunday and his last rites will be conducted with full state honours as a testament to his sacrifice and dedication to the nation.”
