P Selvasekar, 48, had been a single parent to his son S Jegadeeswaran since divorcing his wife. During his son’s last rites on Saturday, Selvasekar had told reporters, “This shouldn’t happen to anyone else.”
Police said Jegadeeswaran had prepared for the exam at a NEET coaching centre for two years.
Stalin slams TN guv for reurning bill to scrap NEET
Chief minister M K Stalin condoled the teenager’s death and urged students not to overburden themselves and take drastic steps.
Criticising governor R N Ravi for not giving his assent to abill to ban NEET in Tamil Nadu, Stalin said, “We sent the bill to the governor, but he put it in abeyance. Then he sent it back under pressure from somewhere . After we passed the resolution again in the assembly, we sent it back to the governor. He was supposed to give his assent, but he forwarded it to the President.” Sports minister Udhayanidhi Sta lin, who visited Selvasekar’s house after hearing of his death, said NEET had “started affecting parents too after destroying the dreams of students”.
Former CM Edappadi K Palaniswami criticised S talin for promising to abolish NEET and doing nothing about it. “…DMK couldn’t pressure the Centre despite having 38 MPs. The government should consult legal experts and take steps to scrap NEET.”
