Infosys announces 5-year deal with European telecom company: Order value and other details

India’s second-largest IT company Infosys has announced a five-year mega deal win with Europe-based telecom and communications group Liberty Global. The deal is valued at €1.5 billion (or ~$1.64 billion) for the initial engagement period. The deal is an extension of their initial collaboration signed in February 2020. The companies have entered into an initial 5-year agreement, with an option to extend to 8 years and beyond. If the deal goes up to 8 years, the total contract value will go up to €2.3 billion (or $2.5 billion approximately).

Infosys will take over the build and operations of Liberty Global’s Horizon entertainment and connectivity platforms. The Bengaluru-based company also aims to add its Topaz AI offerings, according to BSE exchange filing. The collaboration is said to result in Liberty Global savings of over €100 million per year, inclusive of other savings and technology investments.
Liberty Global is licensing these platforms to Infosys to enable it to offer best-in-class services to new operators and markets outside the Liberty Global family. This, the company said, will enable millions of customers, around the world, to use digital entertainment and connectivity services through Horizon. Liberty Global will continue to control product roadmaps and retain all intellectual property for the Horizon entertainment and connectivity platforms.

400 Liberty employees to join Infosys
Under the terms of the business arrangements, senior executives and technology teams from Liberty Global’s Product, Technology Development Service Delivery Group, Network & Shared Operations and Security Groups will transition to Infosys.
This is the third large deal announced by Infosys over the last few months. In June, Infosys has bagged a digital transformation deal with Nordic-based Danske Bank valued at $454 million for a period of five years. Technically, Liberty’s deal also supersedes Infosys’ $1.5 billion deal from global energy giant BP for a period of five years it won in May–which was its largest deal in the last three years.
