VARANASI: Ghosi assembly by-poll campaigning took an ugly turn on Sunday when a youth threw ink on Bhartiya Janata Party candidate Dara Singh Chauhan in Adari area of Mau district on Sunday afternoon.
Additional SP Mahesh Singh Atri said that the assailant has been identified as Monu Yadav and teams had been engaged for his arrest.
Chauhan said that popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath and massive support of people for him has kept Samajwadi Party upset and frustrated due to which he was attacked. BJP district chief Pravin Kumar Gupta termed it’s a bid of Samajwadi Party to insult and humiliate backward class people.
On Sunday afternoon Chauhan had reached near Hindu-Muslim Ekta Gate in Adri area to take part in a poll meeting and campaigning. A BJP booth unit president Sanjay Chauhan said that he along with many others supporters including some prominent Muslims of the area were waiting for the party candidate.
The assailant, who lives in Hasanpur area, was also standing with two-three youths, said Sanjay denying that he knew name of assailant. He said that when party candidate arrived everyone started garlanding him while the assailant also came forward by raising slogans like `Dara Singh Chauhan Zindabad’ but on reaching close he threw ink from a bottle and fled the scene.
