Apple: Apple has ‘killed’ this once-popular app: All the details

[ad_1]

Apple has discontinued its iTunes Movie Trailers app, which was first released in 2011, according to multiple online reports. The app allowed users to watch trailers for upcoming movies and TV shows, as well as purchase or rent movies and TV shows from the iTunes Store.
The iTunes Movie Trailers app is no longer available for download from the App Store. Users who have already downloaded the app can still use it, but it will no longer be updated with new trailers
The release notes for version 2.0 of the iTunes Movies Trailers app read, “Apple TV app is the new home of iTunes Movie Trailers. Open the Apple TV app to watch trailers.”

Why the app has been discontinued

For the last couple of years, the Apple TV app has become the one-stop-shop for all things entertainment. Because the Apple TV app now serves as the company’s primary destination for movie and TV show trailers, there was little use of the iTunes Movies trailers app. It still does come as a surprise as movie trailers do attract a lot of viewers but YouTube is the preferred choice for most of them.
The Apple TV app includes a “Watch the Latest Trailers” section that features trailers for upcoming movies and TV shows. The Apple TV app also allows users to purchase or rent movies and TV shows from the iTunes Store. The Apple TV app is available on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, and other platforms.
The discontinuation of the iTunes Movie Trailers app is the latest step in Apple’s ongoing consolidation of its media apps. In 2019, Apple discontinued the iTunes app for Mac and split its functionality into separate Music, Podcasts, and TV apps.
