Microsoft has announced that it will release its next big Windows 11 update, 23H2, on September 26 and it will include the AI-powered Windows Copilot feature. Along with Windows 11 Copilot, the update will also include a redesigned File Explorer, an improved Paint app, a new volume mixer, and more.
“With over 150 new features, the next Windows 11 update is one of our most ambitious yet, bringing the power of Copilot and new AI powered experiences to apps like Paint, Photos, Clipchamp and more right to your Windows PC,” said Yusuf Mehdi – Corporate Vice President & Consumer Chief Marketing Officer
Windows 11 Copilot
Windows Copilot, which was announced in May this year, will be the headlining feature as it will bring the Bing Chat feature straight to the Windows 11 desktop. The chat sidebar will now be available in Windows just like it appears on the Edge browser.
Windows Copilot will essentially replace Cortana – the company’s virtual assistant – inside Windows 11 last month. It will be integrated directly into Windows 11 and can be accessed from the taskbar at any point of time.
“Once open, the Windows Copilot sidebar stays consistent across your apps, programs, and windows, always available to act as your personal assistant,” the company said when it launched the Copilot.
Windows Copilot will enable users to control settings on a PC, like enable Dark Mode, launch apps, among other tasks by simple text prompts.
Microsoft 365 Copilot AI availability
Microsoft has also announced that its 365 Copilot AI assistant will be available starting November 1 but on certain business and enterprise plans for a $30 per month premium per user.
Last month, Google also announced that its AI-powered enhancements to Workspace apps, including Gmail, will be available for large businesses for $30 per month per user.
According to Microsoft, 365 Copilot combines “the power of large language models (LLMs)” with users’ data in the Microsoft Graph, which includes calendar, emails, chats, documents, meetings, and more to provide a comprehensive output. It will be available in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Teams and Chat.
