NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to distract people from the idea of the caste census.
He claimed that the objectionable remark by BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri against fellow MP Danish Ali from BSP during House proceedings was one of the many ways through which the saffron party is distracting the citizens from caste census.
“What you’re seeing today, Bidhuri, and then suddenly Nishikant Dubey, this is all the BJP trying to distract from the idea of the caste census,” the Congress MP said while addressing an event.
Ramesh Bidhuri repeatedly used the words aatankwadi (terrorist) and mullah during a discussion on the success of Chandrayaan-3 in Lok Sabha. The unparliamentary words used by the BJP MP against Danish Ali were expunged immediately.
The Wayanad MP also called ‘One Nation, One Election‘ and India name change to Bharat distraction strategies of the saffron party.
“The main issues in India are simple – huge inequality in wealth, massive unemployment, huge unfairness towards the lower caste, towards OBCs & tribal communities and price rise among others. Now, BJP can’t contest those. So, instead BJP is getting MP Bidhuri is to make an objectional statement. BJP is saying let’s get together and have elections together, let’s change the name of India. These are all distraction and we’re not going to let them do it,” Rahul said.
Hitting out at the BJP, the Congress leader said that BJP party wins elections by distracting, and not allowing them to construct their narrative.
“In Karnataka, we learned a very important lesson that the BJP wins elections by distracting and not allowing us to construct our narrative. So what we did in Karnataka was, we fought the election in a way where the BJP could not define the narrative,” he said.
The Congress MP also exuded confidence in winning the assembly polls in four states (Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh) later this year.
“We are certainly winning Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and are very close in Rajasthan. Probably winning Telangana as well,” he said.
