Popular messaging app — WhatsApp will reportedly stop working on some Android phones and iPhones starting next week. WhatsApp is ending support for some of the old smartphone models starting October 24, 2023.
According to multiple online reports, the list of outdated smartphones include 18 phones from Samsung, LG and others. “Starting October 24, 2023, only Android OS version 5.0 and newer will be supported,” mentioned WhatsApp on its support page.
“To keep up with the latest advances in technology, we routinely stop supporting older operating systems to point our resources to supporting the latest ones. If we stop supporting your operating system, you’ll be notified and reminded a few times to upgrade your device to continue using WhatsApp. We’ll also update this page regularly to ensure that the latest Android version we support is listed here,” added WhatsApp.
The list of smartphones include

  1. Nexus 7 (upgradable to Android 4.2)
  2. Samsung Galaxy Note 2
  3. HTC One
  4. Sony Xperia Z
  5. LG Optimus G Pro
  6. Samsung Galaxy S2
  7. Samsung Galaxy Nexus
  8. HTC Sensation
  9. Motorola Droid Razr
  10. Sony Xperia S2
  11. Motorola Xoom
  12. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
  13. Asus Eee Pad Transformer
  14. Acer Iconia Tab A5003
  15. Samsung Galaxy S
  16. HTC Desire HD
  17. LG Optimus 2X
  18. Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc3

It is important to note that out of the above mentioned smartphones only Nexus 7 is available in India. So, the Nexus 7 smartphone users will have to worry about losing WhatsApp support. Companies like HTC, Sony and LG have already existed in the smartphone business in India.
What happens if your operating system is no longer supported
Prior to the discontinuation of support for your operating system, you will receive direct notifications through WhatsApp in advance and will be reminded multiple times to proceed with the upgrade.
