India Post recently warned Apple fans about a scam being circulated under its name. The courier and mail delivery department under the Ministry of Communications has warned users about a scam which claims that India Post is giving away iPhone 15 free. The scam is being spread on WhatsApp and other social media platforms. In this, a viral message circulating on social media platforms asks users to share the message with either five groups or twenty friends and then claim the prize. “Your prize is iPhone 15, follow the instructions to claim your gift”. It then asks users to click on the link given in the message
India Post has issued an advisory against these fraud posts. “India Post is not giving any kind of gift through any unofficial portal or link. For any information related to India Post please follow the official website ???? https://indiapost.gov.in,” said the advisory.
Security companies warning
Earlier this month, just days before the unveiling of iPhone 15 series, security company Kaspersky warned Apple fans about similar scams. In a report, cybersecurity experts at Kaspersky said that they have spotted a variety of schemes which charge users a premium to get their hands on a ‘pre-release’ iPhone 15.
These scams, often billed as an ‘exclusive’ offer, try to dupe victims out of their payment details or banking information as well as their personal information (e.g. name, phone number, address). Another similar scam promises buyers a chance to win the iPhone 15 if they pay a small fee to enter a giveaway.
