Modi: UPA coalition of compulsions, NDA alliance of regional aspirations: PM Modi | India News

NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi launched a blistering attack on the constituents of the opposition combine in his two speeches on Tuesday — one while inaugurating the new integrated terminal building of the airport at Port Blair and the second at the NDA meeting in Delhi — saying they were engaged in corruption and dividing people and were driven by the considerations of promoting their families and protecting themselves from being prosecuted.
Drawing on his personal credibility — widely acknowledged to be NDA’s biggest strength — he said, “Each part of my body, every moment I live is devoted to the country. I can commit mistakes, but my intent has never been wrong. ”
Drawing a contrast with the opposition bloc, he said NDA was focused on the country’s development. “We will contest the election on the plank of development,” he said, reflecting the confidence in the ranks that the achievements of the NDA government in two terms constituted a good enough plank to run on.
Speaking at the airport function, the PM said, “Democracy has been described as a form of government which is of the people, by the people and for the people. However, the motto of the opposition leaders who have been obsessed with promoting their clansmen has always been ‘of the family, by the family, for the family’. ” It was an attack which appeared to be simultaneously targeted at a diverse set including Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Trinamool Congress and National Conference, among others.
“When you see all of those who are gathering in Bengaluru in the same frame, the thought that crosses people’s minds across the country is that of gigantic corruption. No matter what they say and what banner they may display, they can offer only one product, that is, guarantee of corruption,” the PM said.
Addressing the NDA meeting in the evening, Modi listed the welfare schemes of his government aimed at thepoor, the socially backward, tribals and women. He said unlike UPA, NDA was not a “coalition of compulsions”. “You could see that in those 10 years, there was a scramble for taking credit if something good happened. But nobody took responsibility if things went wrong,” he added. Modi said the BJP-led alliance, in contrast, was a “coalition of regional aspirations”.
