BENGALURU: In a mid-air scare at Bengaluru airport, a drone came dangerously close to two IndiGo planes soon after their take-off on Tuesday afternoon, causing grave risk to the aircraft’s safety.
The pilots of the two flights alerted the Air Traffic Control (ATC). The airport authorities have mounted a probe to track the operator who flew the drone in the restricted airspace.
KIA sources said the first pilot immediately alerted ATC, and a complaint was registered. The flight that took off next also faced the same situation, a senior airport official said.
ATC officials reported the matter to the Airport Operations Control Centre, which initiated an inquiry. “CCTV footage from the area is being examined to find out what type of device it was, which direction it came from and how close it had come to the two aircraft,” the official added.
The matter was also reported to the CISF team in-charge of airport security. The airport police is likely to commence a probe to track down the drone operator.
IndiGo did not comment on the issue despite a query from TOI on Wednesday.
