KJAMMU: Security forces thwarted a major tragedy by destroying two live mortar shells recovered from a village along the international border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Friday.
Police said some residents found the live mortar shells in a field in Pati Mehru village in Hiranagar tehsil near the international border and immediately alerted the cops. “Police along with a BSF team rushed to the spot on receiving the information and cordoned off the area to prevent any mishap,” said a source.
A Bomb Disposal Squad was called in, which destroyed both shells in a controlled explosion following the standard operating procedure.
