PANAJI: Bedlam in the Goa assembly on Monday over a private member’s resolution on the Manipur crisis being disallowed culminated in speaker Ramesh Tawadkar taking the unprecedented step of suspending for two days – later reduced to 24 hours – all seven opposition MLAs in the 40-member House for “unruly behaviour“.

Attired in black, the opposition MLAs had stormed the Well, demanding that AAP MLA Cruz Silva’s resolution on Manipur be admitted. The speaker suggested that they could raise the issue on Friday.
The MLAs refused to budge. Holding “Save Manipur Save India” placards, they moved towards CM Pramod Sawant, prevented Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar from speaking during Zero Hour, snatched his microphone, and started shouting slogans. “You have to support (us),” the MLAs told Arolkar.

After Marshals escorted the opposition members out of the House, BJP MLAs demanded strict action against them.”Arolkar’s insult is an insult to all members of the House. We cannot tolerate such things. There is a need to name the MLAs, and take strict action against them,” chief minister Sawant said.
