Apple: Apple once ‘made’ these sneakers, could now sell for more than Rs 40 lakh

It is the world’s biggest tech company that makes the most popular phones, tablets and laptops in the world. But once it did make sneakers, as part of a special collection. We are talking about Apple when in the late 80s, the company lent its name to sneakers which were never sold to the common public. However, collectors can now get their hands on these extremely rare pair of shoes. The shoes have been put up for auction by Sotheby’s.

What’s so ‘special’ about these shoes?

For starters, it will be really hard for you to get them anywhere else. Further, these were only custom-made for Apple employees. The sneakers’ listing on the auction house’s website reads, “Custom-made for Apple employees, these ultra-rare sneakers were a one-time giveaway at a National Sales Conference in the mid-’90s.”
Technically, Apple didn’t make them as it partnered with Omega Sports for the sneakers. Back then Apple used to lend its brand name to a few brands for special edition products. Honda, Braun were among the few other companies Apple partnered with.
These sneakers though have an Apple logo. “Featuring a predominately white upper, the old school rainbow Apple logo — on both the tongue and lateral quarter — is a standout detail,” says the auction house about the sneakers. “Having never reached the general public, this particular pair of sneakers is one of the most obscure in existence and highly coveted on the resale market,” it further said.
We have seen in the past people shelling really exorbitant sums of money for Apple products. The most recent being a first-generation iPhone that sold for a whopping Rs 63 lakh. Keeping that in mind, the sneakers have been listed at $50,000 (which is roughly Rs 42 lakh). Do note that this is just the starting price and people could bid more.
