SRINAGAR: A government girls’ school teacher in Bandipora district of north Kashmir was arrested on Tuesday following a student’s complaint to police that he had forcibly removed and torn her hijab inside the classroom. She also claimed that the teacher had been consistently targeting and harassing her and other students for wearing headscarves.
The girl had reported this ongoing harassment to both the school principal and other faculty members, but her complaints had not resulted in any action, sources said.
She discussed the matter with her parents and recounted a specific incident when her mother visited the school to address the issue. “The teacher behaved confrontationally. He raised his voice and questioned my mother’s presence on the school premises,” she alleged.
In response to these allegations, a case has been registered against the teacher under section 354 of IPC and sections 9/10 of Pocso Act. An investigation has been initiated.
