Before Elon Musk’s F-bomb, Disney CEO explained why company stopped advertising on X

Elon Musk is unhappy that brands have again paused advertising on X and he recently made sure that those companies know about it. Among those who have stopped giving ads to the company, previously known as Twitter, is Disney. Both Musk and Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger talked at The New York Times Dealbook Summit where the latter explained why the company won’t advertise on X.
“I have a lot of respect for Elon and what he has accomplished. We know that Elon is larger than life in many respects, and that his name is very much connected to the companies he founded or owns,” Iger said.
“By him taking the position that he took in quite a public manner, we just felt that the association with that position and Elon Musk and X was not necessarily a positive one for us, and we decided we would pull our advertising,” he added.
Iger was referring to a post claiming that Jewish people have a “dialectical hatred” of white people. Musk positively responded to that post saying, “the actual truth.” This apparently didn’t go down well with the advertisers and companies, including Apple, IBM, Disney, Comcast, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Paramount and Warner Bros, stopped advertising on the platform.
What Musk said
Soon after Igor’s session, Musk lashed out and cursed advertisers who left X over antisemitic content. The billionaire told those advertisers to “Go f**k yourself”. He then took a jibe at Iger quickly after using the curse words.
“If someone is going to try and blackmail me with advertising? blackmail me with money? Go f**k yourself,” he said, adding, “Hey Bob, if you’re in the audience,” pointing out the Disney CEO.
Musk said that an advertising boycott, “is going to kill the company, and the whole world will know the advertisers killed the company.”
Musk regrets ‘replying to that one person’
Musk also expressed regret over the controversial post, saying he had essentially ‘handed a loaded gun’ to his haters.
“I should in retrospect not have replied to that one person and should have written in greater length what I meant. But those clarifications were ignored by the media and essentially I handed a loaded gun to those who hate me and arguably to those who are antisemitic. And for that I’m quite sorry, that was not my intention,” he noted.
