US President Joe Biden has officially signed up for Meta’s latest social media platform, Threads, which competes with Elon Musk’s X (previously Twitter). The new account on the micro-blogging site was added on November 20 which also happens to be Biden’s birthday. Apart from him, the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris and the second gentleman, Douglas Emhoff.

In his first post, Bidencalled back on his 2020 presidential victory speech.The US President also referred to the country’s divisions and its current “inflection point.” Meanwhile, Harris wrote about travelling across the US and meeting “over 100” world leaders and Emhoff mentioned gender equity and “countering hate of all kinds,” in their respective posts. White House also joined Threads on the same day and wrote, “The wait is Joe-ver.” Moreover, ex-PresidentBarack Obama has also posted a birthday message to Biden on the social media platform.

How Biden’s Threads account can help

The US President joining doesn’t mean Threads will replace X. But the Meta platform has the potential to turn out to be a news source. However, in an interview with Verge in July,
Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that the app is “not going to do anything to encourage” politics and “hard news.”
In a statement provided to Axios, the latest Threads account of the Biden administration accounts doesn’t mean that they won’t take to X. The Elon Musk-owned platform has recently been struggling to retain advertisers. Major advertisers on the platform like Apple and the European Commission have already left X after a report that highlighted that Musk allegedly supports hate speech on the platform.
